Parametric design is a process based on algorithmic thinking that enables the expression of parameters and rules that, together, define, encode and clarify the relationship between design intent and design response. Parametric design is a paradigm in design where the relationship between elements are used to manipulate and inform the design of complex geometries and structures.
This course focuses on exploring concepts and mechanisms for creating custom parametric models. This includes: regulating hierarchies of relationships, imposing constraints, applying rules, and driving objects’ geometric properties through parameters. In this class, Design is being viewed as a process of breaking problems down and defining parametric structures. Participants will be introduced to basic literature on modeling and parametric design.
